The government evacuated 71 Pakistanis from Lebanon and Syria with a special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight arriving to Karachi in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the flight transported sixty-seven Pakistani citizens returning from Lebanon and who traveled to Damascus by land before being transported by air to Pakistan.
Four other Pakistanis were also evacuated from Syria, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The Pakistani Embassy in Lebanon and Syria made security, transportation and food arrangements to ensure an incident-free evacuation through Lebanon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Upon their arrival, the evacuees were received at the airport by Sindh Governor Kamran Tesoori, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Sindh Industries Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesoori stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of Pakistanis from Lebanon, stressing that the remaining Pakistanis stranded in Lebanon would be repatriated soon.
He also praised the timely actions taken by the embassies to facilitate the speedy return of Pakistanis, expressing his gratitude for the safe return of 71 Pakistanis from war-hit Lebanon.
At Karachi Airport, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stressed that the mission was difficult, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs bears full responsibility for ensuring the safe return of Pakistani citizens.
Dharigu also praised the role of the Sindh government in this effort.
Last month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated its Crisis Management Unit to assist Pakistani nationals and their families in Lebanon, where they remained stranded due to the suspension of flight operations.
