ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the date for filing income tax returns for the second time to October 31.
In a statement issued late Monday night, the tax collector said: “In exercise of powers conferred by section 214A of the Income Tax Act 2001, the Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to announce that the filing date for the income tax return for the tax year 2024, for persons… Who must submit their returns until September 30, 2024, which was extended to October 14, 2024. See Circular No. 2 of 2024 of 25 dated September 30, 2024, which was also extended to October 31, 2024.”
She added that this step has been taken in view of requests submitted by various trade bodies and the Tax Bar Association and in the wake of bank holidays declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
It is pertinent to mention here that a three-day public holiday has been declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the much-awaited meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is scheduled to be held on October 15-16.
Earlier, the FBR had extended the deadline for filing tax returns for the fiscal year 2024 to October 14.
Traditionally, the FBR has, in recent years, adopted the practice of extending the deadline for filing a tax return. Last year, the authority also postponed the deadline for filing tax returns to October 31.
In June, the administration led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in its tax-heavy budget approved in June, laid out an ambitious tax plan to boost the prospects of reaching a new bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
