RAWALPINDI: Security forces arrested five terrorists – or ‘Kharijites’ – in an intelligence operation conducted in Pishin in Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
The army’s media wing added that during the operation, a large number of weapons, ammunition and explosives, including three explosive vests, were seized from the possession of militants involved in multiple terrorist attacks who were planning to target security forces and innocent civilians.
This development comes amid the continuing efforts made by the security forces to reduce the scourge of terrorism, which has witnessed a noticeable increase recently.
According to the third quarterly report (Q3) issued by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the total deaths during three quarters of this year exceeded the total deaths recorded for the entire year of 2023, reaching 1,534 deaths compared to 1,523 deaths last year. .
722 people were killed, including civilians, security personnel and outlaws, while 615 others were injured in as many as 328 incidents recorded during the third quarter.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been at the forefront of the country’s fight against terrorism and have faced the brunt of terrorist attacks.
Separately, ISPR also said that security forces carried out an IBO operation in Job district of Balochistan on Thursday where two Kharijites were eliminated and weapons and ammunition were recovered during the clearance operation.
The institute added that Pakistani security forces remain steadfast in their commitment to eliminating terrorism in the country and protecting innocent civilians from this threat.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the efforts of the security forces and praised the officers and soldiers.
