Bibi Maham’s Arrival in Sindh: A Historical Account of the Migration of the Prophet’s Descendants
Tando Muhammad Khan: After the tragedy of Karbala, the Arab land became so restricted for the family of the Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) that they had to migrate to different countries. Many historians have recorded in their writings that most of the caravans of the Prophet’s family (may God bless him and grant him peace) migrated to Sindh.
The first caravan to reach Sindh was led by Mrs. Ruqayyah bint Ali (peace be upon him), daughter of Hazrat Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him), 4 or 5 years after the Karbala tragedy, around the year 65 or 66 AH. It was referred to as “Bibi Pak Daman” in the land of Sindh.
These thoughts were shared by renowned scholar and author Zawar Abdul Sattar Dars while addressing the event organized in honor of Lady Khadija, Bibi Maham (S), at the shrine of Bibi Badshah Zadi Shamsi Tabrizi in Tando Muhammad Khan by the Dargah Committee of Masooma-e-Sindh.
He also said that after the arrival of this first caravan of the Prophet’s family (may God bless him and grant him peace) in the year 65 AH, the flow of Sayyid’s caravans continued for a long time. Historically, it has been documented that around the year 145 AH, Sayyid Abdullah Shah Ishtar, the grandson of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him), arrived in Sindh, where he was martyred at the hands of an army that came from the Arabian Peninsula. After his martyrdom, he became known as Syed Abdullah Shah Ghazi. Around the same period, Lady Khadija Mahm (peace be upon him), daughter of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him), also arrived in Sindh as part of the same migration from the Arabian Peninsula. She made her home in the historic city of Agam Kot in Badin District, where her shrine is now a place of pilgrimage.
Visitors to Dars stressed that it is our duty to continue efforts to uncover and preserve these holy places, where the pure and noble personalities of the Prophet’s family resided. This is consistent with the command of love and loyalty given to us by the Creator of the universe in the Holy Quran.
Speakers at the event included Syed Fateh Ali Shah Shamsi, Khawaja Liaquat Ali Jafri, Zawar Niaz Hussain Laghari, Qazi Riaz Haider, Maulana Ghulam Hussain Laghari, Syed Ghulam Rasool Shah Shamsi, Muhammad Jumaan Soomro, Muhammad Yusuf Khatri, Sultana Zardari, Aini Soomro, and others.
During the ceremony, Syed Meherban Ali Shamsi also launched Abdul Sattar’s book of visitors, Dars, on the history of elegies.
At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Mehriban Ali Shamsi led a special prayer in his unique style. Traditional Sindhi ajrak gifts were presented to all the guests on the occasion.
