Both sides say case against Roman Polanski over 1973 rape of minor has been settled trendy blogger

French-Polish director Roman Polanski, who fled the United States decades ago after admitting to raping a 13-year-old girl, will no longer face trial for the alleged assault of another minor after a settlement was reached, his lawyer said.

Another case against the director of the film “The Pianist” concerned Alleged sexual assault in 1973He was scheduled to appear in civil court in Los Angeles next August, but has now been withdrawn, Polanski’s American lawyer told AFP.

The case “was settled in the summer to the satisfaction of both parties and has now been formally dismissed,” Alexander Rufus Isaacs said in an email.

The lawsuit, which was filed last year, alleged that Polanski took a then-teenager — anonymously named in the files as Jane Doe — to dinner at a Los Angeles restaurant in 1973.

He allegedly gave her tequila, and when she began to feel dizzy, he took her to his house, where he forced himself on her.

“She told him, ‘Please don’t do this,’” the plaintiff’s attorney, Gloria Allred, told reporters in March.

“She alleges that he ignored her pleas. She also alleges that Defendant Polanski removed Plaintiff’s clothing and proceeded to sexually assault her, causing her enormous physical and emotional pain and suffering.”

The civil suit, which sought unspecified damages, was filed in June 2023, before the expiration of a California law that allowed an extended period for claims against alleged sex offenders.

Court papers filed in California in July said a “conditional” agreement had been reached.

“It has been agreed that the claims will be settled by both parties to their mutual satisfaction,” Allred said in an email late Tuesday.

CBS News has reached out to Allred and Rufus-Isaacs for further comment.

Oscar-winner Polanski, now 91, is a divisive figure, with some in the film world hailing his creative genius while others insist he has always been a sexual predator.

Polanski admitted to raping 13-year-old Samantha Geimer in a plea deal in 1977 to avoid trial on more serious charges.

But he fled to France the following year, after spending 42 days in prison, when it appeared the judge was reconsidering his release.

Gemer then defended Polanski and posed for a photo with him last year.

In May, a French court acquitted Polanski of defaming British actress Charlotte Lewis after she accused him of raping her when she was a teenager.

The director has always denied any wrongdoing.
