“Squid Game” Hyun Joins Theo James in “The Hole” trendy blogger

SAG Award winner and Emmy nominee Hyun (“Squid Game,” “Disclaimer”) will star opposite Theo James in Kim Ji-won’s “The Hole.”

Veterans represents the international rights to the film and presents it to buyers at AFM. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group represent US rights.

Written by Christopher Chen and based on Shirley Jackson’s 2017 award-winning novel by Hae Young Byun, “The Hole” follows Owen (James), a successful professor living abroad in South Korea, who is bedridden after a devastating car accident. An accident kills his wife, Sandy (Hyun). He is left in the care of Yona, his Korean mother-in-law, but when she begins to uncover the devastating truth behind Owen and Sandy’s marriage, and Owen himself, his path to recovery is threatened.

Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton and Nik Krishnamurthy produce for Esmail Corp along with Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster for Kperiod Media, and Andy Sorgi via Paisan, his KPM-backed banner. Jae Choi and Kim Ji Won are producing, with Son Ho Sung serving as associate producer for Anthology Studios.

Told in a mix of English and Korean, the story takes place in both countries and the respective portions will be filmed in the US and Korea with principal photography beginning in Q1/Q2 2025.

Currently appearing on screen opposite Cate Blanchett in Alfonso Cuaron’s psychological thriller “Disclaimer” for Apple TV+, Hoyeon will next be seen as the female lead in Na Hong-jin’s “Hope.” Along with Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. She is repped by CAA, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Recent projects helmed by Vincent Maraval and Kim Foxx’s The Veterans banner include Oscar hopeful Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez,” starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez; Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here” starring Fernanda Montenegro; “Queer,” directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Danielle Creagh; “Mutiny” by Jean-François Richet starring Jason Statham; “Ballerina Overdrive,” directed by Vicki Jason, stars Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, and Iris Apatow. Recently announced films include James Gray’s “Paper Tiger,” starring Adam Driver, Jeremy Strong, Anne Hathaway, and Jim O’Hanlon’s film. “Fackham Hall” starring Thomasin Mackenzie and Katherine Waterston.
