ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday assured Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong that Islamabad fully supports Beijing’s approach of combining development and security.
Naqvi said, expressing his solidarity with Ambassador Taidong over the incident that saw two Chinese nationals injured after being shot by a security guard in Karachi.
The Interior Minister’s statements come after the prosecution of Chinese citizens, according to what was reported News He was injured on Wednesday, after being shot at at a textile factory in Karachi’s Sindh Industrial Commercial Area.
During a meeting at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, the security official stressed that Pakistan gives top priority to the welfare and security of Chinese citizens, especially those working on projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Minister also briefed Ambassador Jiang on the details of the incident, assured him of a prompt and transparent investigation, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring justice and enhancing security for Chinese citizens in the country.
Addressing concerns surrounding the security of CPEC projects, Naqvi stressed that Pakistan is taking “all possible measures” to protect Chinese citizens and assets associated with CPEC.
He revealed that additional security protocols are being implemented to create a safe and stable environment, especially in areas where Chinese citizens reside or work.
Naqvi noted that security forces are actively working to strengthen protection measures, especially in Karachi, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The minister’s meeting with the Chinese envoy comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the shooting incident of Chinese citizens during his visit to the Beijing embassy.
The Prime Minister said that instructions have already been issued to provide the best medical facilities for the wounded, and that he is personally following the investigation process to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
