In an unfortunate incident, at least 14 people drowned after an ill-fated bus carrying wedding guests fell into the Indus River in Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday.
According to Astori Deputy Commissioner Mohamed Tariq: “14 bodies were recovered from the river.” He said that the bride was rescued between two people.
The police said that the ill-fated bus was part of a wedding operation heading towards the Chakwal region in Punjab when it fell into the river from the Tilchi Bridge within the Diamer district. The police added that the bride was recovered from the river in an injured condition.
“As many as 27 people were on board the ill-fated bus,” the official added, adding that 11 people were still missing.
The deputy committee said that the car was also recovered from the river, adding that a search operation was underway to recover the eleven missing people.
Speaking to a reporter, SSP Diamer Sher Khan said: “It is clear that the accident was a result of the driver’s negligence.” He added that the speeding bus, after colliding with the safety barrier of the bridge, fell into the river.
