Disney has removed an untitled “Star Wars” movie that was previously scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026, from its release calendar. “Ice Age 6” will move into place.
Although it has never been confirmed specifically what this project will be, Charmaine Obaid-Chinoy was previously announced as director of the upcoming “Star Wars” film following the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” following Daisy Ridley. The film lost screenwriter Steven Knight earlier this year (after Damon Lindelof and Justin Brett Gibson previously left the project). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said at last year’s Star Wars Celebration that Ridley’s new film will follow Rey as she builds a new Jedi order.
This wouldn’t be the first time a potential entry in the beloved space opera series has ended before it even begins: new installments from director Patty Jenkins, Marvel producer Kevin Feige, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, and Game of Thrones creators David. Benioff and DB Weiss have been announced over the years, but none have ever materialized.
The next “Star Wars” movie, Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” is scheduled to debut in May 2026. Another untitled “Star Wars” movie remains on the slate for a Dec. 17, 2027 release.
