Islamabad: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Islamabad on Thursday closed five prominent restaurants in Islamabad over issuing fake invoices/receipts.
The action came after citizens/consumers reported that restaurants were issuing fake receipts/invoices, an FBR press release said.
This is in line with FBR’s drive to bring tier-one retailers/restaurants under the tax net through point-of-sale billing system.
After determining that the receipts reported through the POS tracking software were incorrect under a procedure already in place, a team of RTO Islamabad led by the Deputy Commissioner sealed five restaurants in Islamabad and also imposed a total penalty of Rs 1.5 million on these restaurants.
It is noteworthy that FBR launched the Sales Points Awards Program as of October 25.
In the first phase, the program was rolled out in Islamabad for tier-one restaurants, which will then be expanded to all tier-one retailers and finally across the country by the end of this month.
Under the programme, citizens/consumers who will report fake receipts through Tax Asaan app to FBR will get various cash rewards.
After checking the fake receipts under an innovative procedure, FBR will transfer the cash prizes directly to the bank accounts of the winners.
Tier 1 retailers/restaurants reported for issuing fake receipts will then be closed.
This important initiative aims to reduce the culture of false invoices by ensuring that the due taxes are deposited in the state treasury.
FBR is committed to ensuring tax compliance through effective implementation of tax regulations.
