A leading Chinese lithium battery manufacturer has expressed interest in establishing an assembly and manufacturing plant in Punjab.
The announcement came during a meeting between a Chinese delegation led by Eenovance CEO Shi Yukun and Punjab Industries Minister Chaudhry Shafie Hussain.
Shi Yukun has requested eight acres of land at Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura for a lithium battery project. He stressed his group’s commitment to invest in Punjab, especially in the production of lithium batteries.
Minister Shafi Hussain assured the delegation of full support, including provision of required lands and access to industrial areas in Punjab. He also highlighted the incentives available in Special Economic Zones in Punjab, including income tax exemption for 10 years and exemption from customs duty on import of machinery.
The minister noted that another Chinese company, Eco, has already signed an agreement to set up a solar panel assembly plant in Punjab, indicating growing interest in the energy sector in the province.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Business Council has shown interest in developing a waste-to-energy plant in Punjab. Council Chairman Chen Qianjiang met Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique to discuss a project aimed at generating energy from waste in Lahore.
Minister Rafiq welcomed the proposal and offered government support, including land allocated for the station. Noting that Lahore produces 4,000 to 5,000 tons of waste daily, he stressed the importance of recycling to achieve environmental benefits and reduce government expenditure under the Suthra Punjab programme.
The Minister directed the CEO of Lahore Waste Management Company to prepare a detailed presentation for the upcoming meeting.
