Jay-Z and Beyoncé walked the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of Mufasa: The Lion King on Monday night to support their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

The 12-year-old voices Kiara, the daughter of Simba (Donald Glover) and Nala (Beyoncé), in the prequel to the 2019 live-action remake of Disney’s “The Lion King.” Glover and Beyoncé are also reprising their vocal roles from the remake.

Jay-Z’s surprise appearance on the red carpet comes one day after he was accused in a civil suit of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 with Sean “Diddy” Combs. The lawsuit, which was first filed in October and originally listed Combs as a defendant, was refiled on Sunday to name Jay-Z (whose real name is Shawn Carter) as well.

Jay-Z responded to the lawsuit on Sunday in a statement calling the allegations “foolish” and part of “an extortion attempt called a demand letter from an attorney named Tony Buzbee.”

He added: “My only sadness is for my family.” My wife and I will have to babysit our children, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely watch the press and ask questions about the nature of these allegations, and explain people’s cruelty and greed. I mourn another loss of innocence. Children should not have to put up with this at a young age. It is unfair to try to understand the inexplicable degrees of malice aimed at destroying families and the human spirit.

Ahead of the Los Angeles premiere of Mufasa, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter stood on stage alongside their co-stars as director Barry Jenkins delivered opening remarks.
