Green Skills for Growth: Dawood International Foundation and UNDP empower over 1,000 Sindh youth trendy blogger

Tando Jam: The David Global Foundation (DGF), with support from UNDP Pakistan, has successfully concluded a pilot green skills training program in Sindh, according to a press release.
Over the course of one month, 1,200 youth, 600 men and 600 women, aged between 18 and 35 years, from Mirpur Khas, Tando Allahyar, Dadu and Larkana acquired green practical skills in key areas such as beekeeping, water harvesting, fuel-efficient cooking and fruits. and vegetable drying, kitchen gardening, and e-commerce, enabling participants to create positive change in their communities. These skills are not only essential for promoting environmental conservation, but they also create pathways to self-employment and social and economic growth, especially for young women in rural areas.
Ayesha Khan Bhatti from Larkana shared how the e-commerce training changed her life: “After completing the training, I signed up for platforms like Fiverr and Upwork and got two freelance projects. This allowed me to contribute an additional PKR 15,000 to my family’s income. For the first time, I feel confident in supporting my education and relieving our family’s expenses. This skill is more than just a way to earn money – it empowers girls like me to take charge of our future.
Akash, from Mirpur Khas, who has received training in organic farming, said: “Learning organic farming techniques has changed the way we farm our land. By adopting these methods, our vegetable production will increase by 20%, reducing our dependence on fertilisers.” Costly. We now save about 10 hours of work every week, and our monthly earnings have increased by PKR 10,000. This training has boosted my self-confidence, as I contribute to the livelihood and well-being of my family.
Faizan Noor of Tando Allahyar said: “The training on fuel-efficient cooking and water harvesting showed me how small changes can benefit the environment. We have reduced the use of firewood by 30%, which saves money and helps preserve our local forests. I am excited to continue these practices And educating others in my community, so we can all work toward a cleaner, greener future.
By conducting 80% of the training sessions in Sindh and engaging local trainers, the Green Skills Training Program ensures cultural sensitivity and effective knowledge transfer.
David’s Global Foundation (DGF) also provided solar stoves to 200 participants certified in fuel-efficient cooking solutions. In addition, trainers in all four regions were given solar stoves in recognition of their pivotal role in the programme. This initiative has enabled them to adopt sustainable practices, reduce fuel costs, and promote environmental conservation.
