In the hope of deepening cooperation between China and Pakistan, several memorandums of understanding were signed to enhance cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training. The agreements, which aim to improve employment opportunities, promote innovation, and strengthen bilateral relations, were finalized during the TVET Forum entitled Strengthening the skilled workforce: shaping a brighter future.

The forum witnessed the participation of policymakers, senior government officials, renowned TVET service providers, company representatives, and leaders from technical and vocational institutes from both countries. The MoUs were signed by TVET institutions, service providers and regional TVET authorities in Pakistan, marking a new chapter in bilateral efforts to equip Pakistani workforce with basic skills.

Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, described the forum as a pivotal step in supporting industrialization in Pakistan and the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He lauded China’s ITMC for its effective role in delivering quality TVET programs in Pakistan and expressed hope that the initiative would help build a productive workforce to meet the evolving CPEC requirements.

In a recorded speech, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives of Pakistan, highlighted the critical role of TVET in achieving sustainable economic growth. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with China to expand these programs as part of the country’s five-year development framework, which prioritizes exports, equality and empowerment, environment and energy.

The forum also presented a video on the TVET landscape in Pakistan, highlighting trends and identifying recommendations for future cooperation. Three panel discussions explored the potential of this partnership, focusing on innovation, workforce readiness, and industry needs.

One of the most prominent features of this event was the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the opening Kayo’s workshop At National University of Technology (NUTECH) Islamabad. This facility is expected to play a vital role in training Pakistani youth in advanced technical skills.

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Hashemi congratulated the embassy team for successfully organizing the forum. He stressed the importance of effective implementation of the signed MoUs and suggested incorporating the forum into the annual calendar of events hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing. He noted that this will ensure continuity of efforts to deepen cooperation between China and Pakistan in workforce development and industrial growth.
