KARACHI: A high-level meeting chaired by Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Enam Memon reviewed the progress of the Red Line Project, a press release said.
Issues related to the progress of construction of bus terminals and depots, conversion of facilities and associated works were put up for discussion at a meeting attended by Transport Minister Asad Zamin, Trans Karachi CEO Tariq Mansoor Chandio, international consultants and others. The work done so far was explained to the participants by Trans Karachi CEO Tariq Mansoor Chandio.
During the meeting, international advisors made recommendations on how to implement some actions to meet international standards and solve some persistent challenges.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the meeting, Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said that the BRT Red Line is among the key initiatives related to infrastructure development in Karachi and that challenges are being addressed to complete the project as per schedule.
He said the Red Line BRT would be a game-changer for Karachi commuters and any further delay in progress could not be tolerated.
During the meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon asked the Transport Ministry to stay in close touch with utility service providers. He said that coordinated efforts must be made regarding resolving issues such as relocation of facilities and accelerating construction.
He said that the Sindh government is committed to a modern, efficient and environment-friendly transportation system for the people of Karachi. This route extends from the BRT Red Line along the 26-kilometre journey and is intended to be the backbone of mass transit in Karachi as a whole. The potential capacity of Red Line buses has the capacity to transport thousands of passengers daily, thus reducing road traffic.
