Following its theatrical release, the Universal Pictures film, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, will be available exclusively for purchase or rental on December 31, 2024 on major digital platforms. Additional content in the digital edition includes a single copy, a 40-minute journey through Oz that “celebrates the transformative magic of film on screen,” and other materials.

“Wicked” set the record for the biggest opening ever for a film based on a Broadway show and has grossed $392 million domestically to date. The film was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and acting nods for Erivo and Grande. Based on the stage show with music and lyrics by composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, “Wicked” is directed by Jon M. Chu. The film also stars Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marisa Pudi, Peter Dinklage, and Jeff Goldblum.

Earlier this month, Universal Pictures announced that it had retitled the sequel to “Wicked: For Good.” The film, which chronicles the second act of the Broadway show, is scheduled to open in theaters on November 21, 2025.
