KARACHI: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology organized a symposium on the topic “Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s Concept of Education and Care in the Context of Modern Era” in which eminent scholar and former head of the Department of Arabic at Aligarh Muslim University, India, Professor Abu Sufyan Islahi, delivered a thought-provoking lecture and explained how We can apply Sir Syed’s concept of education and pedagogy in the present era, said a press release.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, renowned scholar and former head of the Department of Arabic Language at Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Abu Sufyan Islahi, said that Sir Syed was an enlightened thinker who advocated national unity. Sir Syed presented the truth of the Qur’an in his writings.
He said people, especially scholars and thinkers, misrepresented Sir Syed and not only gave wrong interpretations but also made him a target of criticism without reading Sir Syed’s writings. He was a true devotee of Islam. In his book, “The Ahmadiyya Sermon,” he presented a logical response to Sir William Peacock’s slander against the Holy Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
The progress of a nation should not be limited only to education, but should be limited to civic and moral values and ethics. Simply having access to modern science is not enough; The nation must have its own identity, which is acquired through cultivation and character building. Sir Syed gave an identity to the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent.
In a welcome speech, President of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Javed Anwar, said that the process of education and character building are two important aspects of human life.
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan served humanity by transcending contradictions and ideologies because he knew that positive change in human life does not come from revolution but from reform and development. You must be rational and reasonable if you want to grow and succeed in life, which is related to the best education and cultivation. Character building was of fundamental importance in the educational system of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
Personality development was given top priority in his academic institutes. This is why students who come out of Aligarh Muslim University are equipped with their unique identity including sound personality and education. Training children is an ongoing process. A good and virtuous society is shaped by appropriate training and education.
While presenting the vote of thanks, SSUET Vice Chancellor Dr. Munawar Hossain said that we should not compromise on our principles. The purpose of education is not only to acquire knowledge, but also to build character. In this day and age, where social media and new technologies are having an impact, we need to adopt a balanced approach to training young people.
While moderating the event, Dr. Imad Al-Haq, Head of the Department of Business Administration, said that modern technologies, social media and materialism have almost destroyed the morals and social norms of our society.
