KARACHI: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, successfully hosted the Indonesia-Pakistan Workshop on Palm Oil 2025. This important event honored Pakistan as a strategic partner in global palm oil trade and strengthened joint commitment. To enhance sustainability in this vital sector.
The workshop, titled “Promoting Sustainable Palm Oil for the World,” brought together prominent delegates and experts from both Indonesia and Pakistan. It served as a platform to enhance bilateral cooperation, address misconceptions, and underscore the enormous potential of palm oil as a sustainable resource.
Acting Consul General, Teguh Wiwiku, in his speech expressed his deep gratitude to the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) and Palm Oil Suppliers Association of Pakistan (POSAP) for co-hosting this conference. Pivotal workshop.

Indonesia has recognized Pakistan as a major player in its palm oil exports, with more than 80-90% of Pakistani palm oil imports coming from Indonesia. This strong partnership highlighted the importance of the event, as discussions focused on strengthening business relations and promoting sustainable practices in the palm oil industry.
Symposium speakers debunked myths surrounding palm oil, especially regarding its environmental and health impacts. Indonesia’s delegate stressed that these misconceptions have overshadowed the true potential of palm oil. The transparent and scientific speech during the event emphasized the benefits of palm oil and demonstrated its pivotal role in meeting global needs in a sustainable manner.
With challenges such as stagnant palm oil production and rising domestic consumption in Indonesia, the event underscored the importance of maintaining stable supply chains over the long term. Strategies were examined to ensure uninterrupted availability of palm oil for both local and international markets. Sustainability remained a key element of the discussions, as Indonesia shared efforts to reduce deforestation, conserve biodiversity, promote responsible land use, and ensure the well-being of workers and communities.
The workshop emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, cooperation and regular dialogue between Indonesia and Pakistan. Strengthening this partnership has been identified as essential to address the challenges and unleash the full potential of sustainable palm oil.
The active participation of the Indonesian delegation from GAPKI and CPOPC in the symposium came at the right time and ahead of the annual Pakistan Edible Oil Conference (PEOC) this weekend (January 11). In fact, at PEOC, the Indonesian delegate also presents some useful papers.
The Indonesian Consulate expressed its gratitude to CPOPC, GAPKI and POSAP for co-hosting the workshop and to PEOC for facilitating further dialogue during the Annual Edible Oil Conference. Together, these engagements have positioned sustainable palm oil as a key driver of economic growth and environmental stewardship on the global stage.
