More than 33,500 tax cases worth Rs. 4.7 trillion is still pending in the courts – Trendy Blogger

Islamabad: More than 3,522 tax related cases worth Rs. 4.7 trillion remains unresolved in courts and tribunals across the country.

This came during a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister ordered immediate action in these cases. He directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to employ reputable lawyers to strengthen the government’s position in court. He also ordered a judicial audit of revenue-related cases and punishment of officers responsible for weak or defective cases.

The meeting was informed that significant progress has already been made, with 586 cases resolved in the High Courts and 637 cases in the Supreme Court during the period from July to December 2024.

The meeting was informed that a litigation management dashboard has been developed to monitor cases in the high courts. Meanwhile, the launch of the Ministry of Law and Justice’s tax court management system is about to be completed.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahmad Khan Cheema, Attorney General Mansoor Awan, FBR Chairman and senior officials.
