Islamabad: The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, met on Saturday with the Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ehsan Iqbal, and discussed the ongoing and future cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ehsan Iqbal spoke about the Vision 2025 initiative, which served as a strategic roadmap for economic and social development in Pakistan, a press release said.
He also highlighted efforts to eliminate deprivation from basic education through public-private partnerships, regional cooperation to strengthen capacities in the areas of education, health and human resources, along with significant increases in the higher education budget.
The minister said that the government is committed to modernizing higher education curricula and qualifying university students.
Jane Marriott congratulated Ehsan Iqbal and commended the efforts of his entire team to prepare Pakistan’s Awaran National Economic Transformation Plan to address key economic challenges through the targeted framework of 5Es.
Ehsan Iqbal said that the economic strategy aims to rejuvenate the Pakistani economy, promote sustainable development and drive comprehensive growth.
He stressed the importance of the five critical areas that the strategy aims to address including exports, e-Pakistan, environment and climate change, energy and infrastructure, and equality and empowerment.
He also stressed the crucial importance of the financial sector in promoting export growth, promoting agricultural exports, promoting industrial development, and advancing vital areas such as information technology, services, mining, workforce export, blue economy and innovation.
The meeting concluded with both parties affirming their commitment to strengthening strong relations and cooperative efforts to achieve mutual growth and development.
