Islamabad: The Revenue Division suggested one time exemption from the government’s policy that requires the cancellation of 60 % of the vacancies in its field formations, noting the challenges faced by the FBR in implementing its transformational plans.
This request was discussed during a meeting of the ministerial committee concerned with reducing the size of the federal government, which was held on Friday. The meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Orenzib, included detailed presentations from each of the Revenue Department and the Ministry of Poverty and Social Security, covering their states, organizational structures, budgets and the impact of public service.
The Revenue Department presented its plan to update the FBR, with a focus on major initiatives such as automation and technological integration, especially through projects such as anonymous evaluation and customs examination. The committee was briefed on the efforts made to simplify the operations, including the cancellation of 158 (BS-18 and below) and the appointment of 27 BS-16 to 20 jobs as “death centers” in line with the Cabinet Resolution as of August 2024.
In light of the difficulties facing FBR, the Revenue Department requested one time exemption from the requirement to cancel 60% of vacancies within its field formations, while recognizing the ongoing modernization challenges.
Minister Orlenzib acknowledged the issues of the lack of investment that FBR faced over the years and stressed the importance of benefiting from technological solutions, including automation, to enhance operational efficiency and provide services.
In addition, the Ministry of Poverty and Social Security also offered the progress it made, as the Orlandsib highlighted the need for a more uniformity approach through departments functions to maximize the impact on public policy and provide services.
In the aftermath of the discussions, Orenquners issued instructions to the sub -committee of the Rights Documentation Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the Revenue Department and the Ministry of Poverty and Social Security to evaluate their structure, functions and operational efficiency. This review will explore the opportunities available to improve the results of the public service in line with the goals of the committee.
