ISLAMABAD: Minister of Industry and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain announced on Friday that the final decision on closure or restructuring of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) will be taken in the next meeting.
The Minister stressed that all decisions will be made transparently, giving priority to the public interest.
During a high-level meeting attended by Federal Minister for Information Technology and Communications Shatha Fatima Khawaja, key recommendations regarding the future of USC were made. The meeting also discussed the implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives regarding utility stores and a review of the necessary measures to accelerate the closure process if necessary.
To improve the productivity of USC employees and sales outlets, a special committee was formed to evaluate the company’s operational efficiency. It was also noted that several private sector companies have expressed interest in restructuring USC.
The Minister stressed the importance of making informed decisions to confront challenges while ensuring that the public interest remains a priority.
