The French Senate approved the 2025 budget on Thursday, as it was sent to the Constitutional Council for review.
If it is approved, President Emmanuel Macron can sign it in the law, as a political confrontation has ended that led to the collapse of the government and the unstable markets.
The budget aims to reduce the deficit by reducing spending and increasing taxes for high companies and companies. Prime Minister Francois Bayro used special constitutional powers to push it after his predecessor’s government failed to pass a budget in 2024.
In December, lawmakers passed a temporary law to maintain the basic government functions and avoid closure. However, the process will start again in the coming months with the seasonal preparations for the 2026 budget.
