Islamabad: K-Electric request from the National Authority for the Regulatory of Electricity (NEPRA) approval of 4.95 rupees per unit of energy price due to the adjustment of fuel fees for the month of December 2024.

According to industry sources, Nepra set a general hearing on February 26, 2025, to consider the K-Electric (KE) request to amend temporary negative fuel fees (FCA) for the month of December 2024.

According to KE, the negative FCA was calculated based on the temporary reference tariff in March 2023, with RS variation. (4.95)/kilowatt hours, translated into a total rupees. 4.94 billion in fuel costs.

In addition to the FCA modification, Ke Nepra requested an additional modification of RS. 5 billion fuel costs it incurred from July to December 2024.

The power tool argues that this amount is suspended due to partial load, open cycle, decomposition curves, and startup costs. KE urged power to allow this amendment now to prevent a future burden on consumers.

According to the details, Nepra frame the main questions of the trading during the session:

  1. If the required FCA is justified?
  2. Whether Ke followed the entitlement order during transmission to its power plants as well as energy purchases from external sources.
  3. Did Ke be asked to control the accumulated investigation of fuel costs – possible for partial loading, open cycle operations, decomposition curves, and startups from July to December 2024 – of a change in the cost of the justified negative fuel?

The session will be held in Niabra and online, allowing interested and affected parties to submit written or oral objections.

It is appropriate to mention that this session is important because it may lead to a decrease in electricity costs for the Karachi consumers with a determination of how to manage Ke
