The Minister of Finance determines the reform agenda for the World Bank delegation

IslamabadFinance Minister Mohamed Uranzib met a delegation from the World Bank (WB) on Wednesday to provide Pakistan’s economic expectations and the schedule of comprehensive reform work for the government, according to the Finance Department.

The minister highlighted the main structural reforms, focusing on filling revenues, improving the energy sector, and restructuring and privatizing state -owned companies (Soes). He stressed that the government aims to privatize up to 50 state-owned companies over the next 3-4 years.

Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of financial discipline, including monitoring expenses and expanding the tax base, with reference to the ongoing efforts of the right size and the growth of expected revenue. He repeated the government’s commitment to create a business friendly environment as the private sector leads economic growth. “The government has no work at work,” he stressed.

The Minister also expressed his gratitude for the World Bank’s continuous support for economic priorities and development in Pakistan. In particular, the delegation thanked the launch of the new country partnership framework (CPF) 2026-35, which includes an unprecedented commitment of $ 20 billion to support the development goals of Pakistan.

In response, the World Bank delegation praised the reform efforts of the government, noting that the main economic measures show positive results. They praised the comprehensive government approach and affirmed the continuous support, stressing that the Pakistani structural reforms are very important to economic stability in the long term and sustainable growth.

The meeting also led to discussions on creating an organized framework for development partners to enhance coordination and increase the impact of projects. Aurangzeb emphasized that although financial support is available, what Pakistan really needs is experience and technical support to take full advantage of these resources.
