Karachi: The PTCL group, the largest provider of information and communication technology services in Pakistan, is pleased to announce the appointment of an experienced bank, Tooran ASIF as a new president and executive director (CEO) of the U Microfinance Limited Bank (UANK). With a distinguished profession that extends over three decades in digital banking and retail services, Tooran ASIF is preparing to direct Obank to the next stage of growth and innovation, says a press release.
Before joining UBank, Tooran ASIF was the CEO of KT Bank Pakistan Limited (under the Bank Digital Bank). Previously, he was associated with Mashreq Bank and held many higher appointments including consumer banking president, playing a pivotal role in leading the digital transformation of consumer business. As the CEO of Mashreq Al Islami, he built a strong Islamic company by strengthening business proposal and services.
His career also includes great leadership roles in the world famous institutions such as Standard Charge Bank, Citigroup and Anz Bank, as he sharpened his experience in financial inclusion and business transformation. Asif brings several years of international experience across Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom. He holds a certificate in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in Business Administration Institute (IBA).
In his role, as Chairman, Board of Directors, Microfinance Bank, Chairman and CEO of the group, PTCL & UFONE 4G, Hatem Bammarif welcomed Turan Asif on board, expressing his ability to push Obank forward. His appointment follows the duration of Mohamed Issa Taheri, who served as CEO and CEO during the transfer period. Obank extends his heartfelt gratitude to Taheri for his leadership and invaluable contributions in directing the bank during this stage.
