The Federal Senator for Finance and Revenue, Senator Mohamed Orangazib, held a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Rina Kyona, who called the minister in the Finance Department.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on Friday, the meeting focused on a set of matters of mutual interest, especially on strengthening trade and investment relations between the European Union (EU) and Pakistan.
During the meeting, Senator Uranzib and Ambassador Kyuna discussed opportunities for European companies in Pakistan, focusing on the need to create an empowerment investment climate for the growing appetite for expansion. Dr. Kyona has shared that the European Union has already identified more than 300 European companies working in Pakistan, with the belief that many of them are present.
Dr. Keyunka expanded an invitation to Senator Uranzib to attend a business and investment forum, which plans to the European Union’s mission in Pakistan to host in Islamabad in mid -May 2025. The forum aims to enhance cooperation and discuss how Pakistan can continue to attract investment in European business. She emphasized that European companies were increasingly considered Pakistan as a center for possible commercial opportunities, especially in the light of the next forum.
Senator Uranzib thanked Dr. Kionka for taking the initiative to host the forum and assured her of his full support. He expressed his intention to attend and speak in this event personally, which emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting European Union companies in Pakistan and facilitating their operations, including ensuring the return of shares and profits in a timely manner.
The Minister also welcomed the idea of creating a proactive and united commercial platform for European companies, noting his recent positive participation with a group of French and Dutch companies operating in Pakistan.
Moreover, Senator Uranzip expressed his appreciation for the support of the European Union of Pakistan, especially the importance of the generalized plan for the preference attachment (GSP Plus). He highlighted that GSP Plus was a decisive empowerment factor for Pakistan’s efforts to advance the export -led growth.
The minister also stressed the need to follow a more active approach in communicating with European capitals for constructive participation in major issues, including the continuation of the GSP Plus facility, which is vital for Pakistani trade relations with the European Union in the coming years.
Both leaders again emphasized their joint commitment to enhancing economic and trade relations between Pakistan and the European Union, and the establishment of a prosperous and beneficial business environment for both parties for both sides.
