In the years since Bong Joon Ho has achieved the history of Oscar with the best image “Parasite” in 2020, the base of the Korean director continued to grow and develop all over the world. With the latest version of his capitalist “Mickey 17”, starring Robert Pattinson, he feels time to celebrate his work that challenges the type over the years.
This Sunday is opened in Los Angeles, “The Director of the Director: Bong Joon Ho” is the first exhibition that is completely dedicated to the film of the beloved director. The collection features more than 100 original creatures from Bong, including Suseok Rock from “ParaSite”, the original menu used during “The Host” and an advertisement for Film Club Bong while registering at Yonsei University, where he displayed classics such as “Paris, Texas”, “Tokyo Story” and “Raging Bull”.
When working in the exhibition over the past two years and cooperating with Pong on personal touches, the exhibition coordinator Michel Bewitsz was excited to see the Bong style developed from his early drawings in the 1980s and 1990s.
“He starts with the comedy he drew when he was a university student at Yonsei University, and thinking about those who follow a line through all the classified stories he made for his films.” diverse.
As part of the exhibition, the Academy is also examining the Bong works, where Bong and Stephen Yun appeared at the “OKJA” show on March 23, along with “SnowiPiercer”, “parasite”, “Memories of Murder” in 4K, “The Host” and “Mother” with 35mm editions.
Here is a preview of what can be expected when visiting the new Oscar Museum exhibition, which runs from March 23 to June 10, 2027.
Posters and art appeared in “PARASITE” (2019)
The image of the Park family that appeared in “PARASITE” has been re -created here, as the image reflects a model middle -class family in Korea. Pong worked with the artist Zebizi to create all the artistic works attracted by Park Da-Song in the movie, which led to one of the funniest scenes of the movie.
PROP SUSEOK from “PARASITE” (2019)
Suseok, which is usually seen as a symbol of fortunately, was one of the unforgettable (paradoxical) images in “Parasite”. Like the Park family turns from hope and upward movement to their final fall and violence. Suseok rocks have been collected in Korea since the fourteenth century and also known as “watching” or “researchers’ stones.
Leads and pillars from “SnowiPiercer” (2013)
The bullet pillars that appeared in “Snoupiercer” are shown, along with other military medals shown on the instead of Minister Mason (Tilda Swingon), based on a picture of dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The museum also sheds light on how Swinton was inspired by authoritarian leaders Benito Mussolini and Kim Il Song to demonstrate her behaviors.
“Mother” (2009) comic stories and drawing books
Bong is famous for its exact details with the comic story, and the exhibition is characterized by drawings and graphics from his work on “Mother” (2009). The exhibition also displays its original text for graphics, graphics and stacks for “Momises” (2003).
Bong early love for comic books
While Pong is known primarily for his work in the cinema, the comic books were his first passion because of the books he found as a child in his father’s library. During registration at Yonsii University, Bong Caricature was published in the school newspaper, indicating his unique visual style from an early age.
20 Bong movie, the most influential, including Psycho Poster
In his speech in Oscar, Bong showed a sanctification of film makers such as Martin Scorsese who formed his work, so it is appropriate for the exhibition to celebrate the largest counselor in Pong. When Puetz visited for the first time Pong in his office, he was “beaten” by souvenirs he kept from his favorite films. I collaborated with Pong on the wall of stickers and asked him to choose 20 more influential films in his work, including “Silence of Lamps”, “Barton Fink”, “Zodiac” and “Psycho”. “Psycho” sticker comes from the Bong collection.
The yellow poster of the original cinematic doors
After Bong completed his required military service, he helped start a yellow club for doors at the University of Usi, where he offered many classics and participated in the analytical seminars. Pong drawing the original poster shown above, in detailing information about the organization’s meetings.
