The mining activity in Duque Balochistan is more than 50 %, amid security concerns – Trendy Blogger

The Human Rights Committee in Pakistan (HRCP) has announced a decrease in more than 50 % in the mining activity in Duke, Balochistan, due to the ongoing security risks and the closure of several mines.

The report sheds light on security risks, bad working conditions, and a lack of support in emergency situations that left workers both afraid of their safety and facing great financial difficulties due to limited job opportunities.

The report highlights that workers have been frustrated from living near the mines, as many have been forced to move long distances per day to their workplaces.

Historically, the coal fields in Duque have been an important source of work and economic activity of the region. However, modern closures and deteriorating safety conditions have raised concerns about the welfare of local communities.

In October 2024, a militant attack on the mines resulted in the death of at least 21 miners. After the attack, miners were striked, and many mines were closed in response to safety concerns.

The HRCP report also indicated that the failure of security and the lack of response services to emergency cases has exacerbated the crisis. Workers remain vulnerable to attacks without any immediate assistance to enforce the available law.

Despite the risks, many continue to work in dangerous conditions due to financial necessity, and to live at a constant threat of workplace and violence incidents.

The report also indicated that security measures are not sufficient, and there are no medical or rescue services available to workers. Despite the dangerous conditions, many workers continue to risk their lives due to financial restrictions.

HRCP called on the government to take urgent measures to improve security in mines, ensure access to medical and rescue emergency services, and implement stronger safety measures to protect workers.

The report also emphasizes the long -term impact of the decline in mining activities on the local community, which historically depends on the coal industry for work and economic stability.
