IslamabadOn the sidelines of the BFA Forum, Pakistan and Russia affirmed on Thursday a commitment to strengthening economic and trade relations.
According to the press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, the reaffirmation was reaffirmed during the Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue meeting, Senator Mohamed Orangazib with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexei Overchuk.
During the meeting, the minister again affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic, commercial and investment relations with Russia.
He emphasized the increasing momentum in bilateral relations, especially in the fields of energy, trade and industrial cooperation, recalling the great progress made during the ninth session of the Pakistani and Russian Committee between the government (IGC) in Moscow, and its heads by the Minister of Pakistan in the field of energy, Owais Ahmed Legari and Russia Rodiv.
Discussions also focused during the meeting on enhancing energy cooperation, as Pakistan expresses its interest in expanding the purchase of crude oil and investments in oil and gas exploration.
The prominent figures have also failed to cooperate in the electrical energy sector, as Pakistan welcomes technical expertise and investment in Russia.
In addition, the minister admitted the importance of the Pakistani freight train project, Russia, scheduled to be launched on March 31, 2025, under the transportation corridor from the north and south through Iran. The two sides discussed measures to ensure smooth operations, including facilitating customs and organizational alignment.
Pakistan’s extreme interest in creating a new steel mill has also been highlighted with Russian cooperation. The Minister stressed the importance of feasibility studies and cost assessments to move the project forward.
In conclusion, the Federal Minister affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its economic and trade relations with Russia and expressed optimism about expanding bilateral cooperation in the main areas of mutual interest.
