Commissioning is a dynamic and rewarding role for anyone who likes to read and help to disseminate, the latest research on our audiences for millions of readers. The role is designed for those who are engaged in a higher level reading and research, and who immerse themselves in learned debates. For these reasons, we generally seek applications from doctoral students / candidates, post-doctoral students and master’s students (taught or research). In specific terms, the role is to identify (then work with) authors in subjects / areas that you want to order unique items for the website. We hope to obtain articles that explore and advance the edges of cutting theory and practice, and to do it in an accessible way. We largely define international relations, and there is practically no field on which we do not welcome our editors in the content of content. This includes related disciplines based on international issues such as history, law, sociology, political science, regional studies, etc. So if you work inside or at the intersection, one or more of these areas, we welcome your application.
You will be responsible for searching and contacting potential authors yourself – although we will give you advice and supervise you throughout the process. Each work to which a commissioning publisher contributes is granted by the credit which appears permanently on production – equivalent to a verified recording of your efforts. You are authorized to define your own program and to adapt this role around your busy schedule because it suits you best, but you must understand that the role is self-starting … So you have to bring your own momentum, your passion and your dynamism. If you are unable to work on your own initiative and find your own ideas, then this role is not for you. Everything we publish is open access, so you can share your successes to all those who can click on a link.
This role is distant and voluntary. Volunteering with relations between international relations is not your typical “working experience”. First of all, we coordinate our activities remotely using Slack. Thus, you do not need to physically attend a workplace to volunteer. Second, we do not have paid staff, we are all volunteers. We make volunteers of our free time because we want to have helped to maintain the best online resource for students and scholars in international policy. Finally, we allow our publishers to acquire skills, manage their time and develop their own projects. The result is that the more the volunteers give themselves, the more experience they remove. It is not surprising that many of our publishers have based their experience with us to assume higher positions in the publishing industry, politics and the university world.
