Lahore: The Punjab government issued a general survey report entitled “The wild echoes”, Presenting the citizen’s observations on Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif initiatives to preserve wildlife.
This is the first survey of its kind, as it acquired public opinion on the main environmental reforms in the province.
According to the survey conducted by the Earth People Global, an international organization working in conservation over the past 14 years, 59 % of the respondents have approved environmentally friendly CM Maryam Nawaz policies, and their focus is estimated on neglected environmental fields. 65 % of Punjab citizens ranked government’s efforts in forests and fisheries as “excellent”, while 64 % admitted positive reforms in protecting wildlife.
General participation has emerged as a major direction, as 70 % of the respondents express its willingness to support environmental initiatives voluntarily. Lal Suhanra National Park has been identified as the most popular site for preservation efforts, followed by Changa Manga and Chashma Barage wildlife.
Meanwhile, 53 % of the respondents praised government measures against fishing and illegal wildlife.
The survey has determined the removal of forests, the destruction of habitats, climate change, and pollution as the most important threats of wildlife in Punjab. In response, the Punjab government has announced new initiatives, including wildlife clubs in schools and colleges, urban wildlife rescue centers at each province’s headquarters, and the reward system to report illegal fishing activities.
In addition, the survey reflected the overwhelming general support for projects such as “Pakistan Factory” The campaign, land reclamation of illegal violations, and legal reforms aim to enhance conservation efforts. The Punjab government plans to use these ideas to increase the development of its environmental policies.
