Director James Toubak, who was among the first to be distinguished in the #Metoo scandal in 2017, was requested on Wednesday to pay $ 1.68 billion after the trial of sexual assault in New York.
Tobback, 80, has been accused of misusing his strength in the cinema industry for sexual assault on women for four decades. 40 women witnessed seven -day trial, which led to what their lawyers believe were the largest sexual assault in the history of the state.
“I think this is the jury spoke loudly and clearly,” said Brad Piccrant, the prosecutor’s lawyer. “We wanted to hear their voice and to hesitate throughout the country to tell the informed and the people in the positions of strength, we will not tolerate the use of that force against women.”
Tupac did not attend the trial. Earlier in this case, he issued a comprehensive denial, including the claim that any sexual activity was mutual. He was behaving as his own lawyer at the time. He did not appear to the listening sessions before the trial, which led to a virtual ruling against it.
Tobback did not respond to the messages seeking to comment on Wednesday.
The jury consisting of six members held a decision on the damage. After deliberations, the jury granted $ 280 million in compensatory damage and $ 1.4 billion of punitive damage.
Lawyers will then have to evaluate whether TOBB has any assets they can follow.
“We will try to restore it, but this is not the only catalyst,” said Ross Leonodakis, the other prosecutor’s lawyer. “We have seen a unique opportunity to help these survivors search for justice.”
Tupac wrote the movie “Bugsy” for the year 1991, and I wrote and directed “The Beck Artist” and “Two Girls and Man”. He has been accused of uniting the streets of New York for decades, and has been looking for young women to call for meetings with the promise of film shows. He was accused of sexual assault on Harvard and other locations all over New York, including his apartment, liberation studio, and public parks.
The accused-most of them now in the 1940s and 1950s, were allowed, and some in the early 1970s-by bringing the lawsuit under New York’s survivors law for adults, which established a single year window in which the statute of limitations was suspended for sexual assault. The lawsuit was first filed in December 2022.
Over the course of the trial, 20 women saw personally. Video deposits of 20 other women were played in the jury.
Mary Monohn, the main prosecutor, said in a statement that the verdict represents “verification of health.”

Another prosecutor, Karen Skalir Watson, said the ruling will make New York safer for women.

Prosecutors initially filed a lawsuit against Harvard in New York, on the pretext that the club was neglected to allow Tobback to use many sexual assaults over many years. Prosecutors agreed to stop the case against Harvard in January 2024.
