Nepra to hear a tariff cut from 11 iPPS on April 16 – Trendy Blogger

Islamabad: In line with the re -negotiable federal government agreements, 11 IPPS power producers (IPPS) agreed to review their electricity tariff and submitted a joint request to the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

According to the official sources, the CIA (CPPA-G), along with nine Bagasse and IPPS power plants, which operates under the 2002 Energy Policy, applied to adjust the common tariff. Nepra set a general hearing on April 16, 2025, to review requests and evaluate the proposed changes on the approved tariff structures.

Bagasse -based power plants include nine:

  • Chiniot Power Ltd
  • JDW Sugar Mills Ltd (II and III units)
  • Limited manufactures
  • Energy Ltd.
  • Thaal Industries Corporation Ltd
  • Hamza Sugar Mills Ltd.
  • Rick Mills Limited
  • Shujer Mills Ltd.

In addition, two of the IPPS that operates under the 2002 Energy Policy – Attock Gen Limited and Foundation Power Company Daarki Ltd – joined the petition.

Niabra stated that the main features of the applications are:

  • Review of the fuel cost component (FCC)
  • 50 % decrease in a working capital component
  • Install the return on stock (ROE) and the return on property rights during construction (ROEDC) by 17 % annually, on the basis of PKR, using a fixed exchange rate of $ 168/USD without a future dollar index.
  • 10 % decrease in operating and maintenance costs (O & M)
  • O review of the O & M index mechanism
  • Determine the insurance costs at 0.7 % of the approved EPC cost
  • So for the IPPs to sell electricity to the Balt Energy Consumer (BPCS) under paragraph 2.1 (i) of their agreements

This step follows the Federal Cabinet approval of the re -negotiated agreements with this IPPS in December 2024 and January 2025. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce the electricity tariff and provide relief to consumers.

Nepra invited all the affected stakeholders and parties and members of the public to participate in the April 16 session. Applications are available on Nepra, and all correspondence will be directed to the Nepra recorder.
