Google agreed to pay $ 1.375 billion to Texas to settle two cases that accuse the population -violating company.
The lawsuits, which were submitted in 2022, claimed that Google illegally tracked the sites of users, special search operations, audio exposes, and facial engineering through services such as Chrome, Google Maps and Google Photos. Paxston described the settlement as a historical moment for the privacy of the consumer, describing it as the largest settlement of this state and the technological giant.
“This is a great victory for the privacy of Texas,” said Paxon. “For years, Google secretly tracked the movements of people, research operations and even biometric data. I have fought and won.”
The agreement follows a similar settlement of $ 1.4 billion guaranteed by Paxton last year from Meta, the parent company for Facebook and Instagram, about unauthorized use of biometric data.
Google, with an agreement to the settlement, did not recognize any violations. Jose Castaida spokesman said that the company has already implemented many political changes in the heart of complaints and confirmed that the settlement will not require any other changes to its products.
“This solves a series of long claims related to the policies that we have made since then,” said Kastanida. “We are happy to move forward and stay committed to building strong privacy protection in our services.”
The settlement covers the claims related to the hidden Chrome mode, track Google Maps, and face recognition data in Google Pictures.
