Islamabad: The first direct flight from Tashkent to Lahore took off on Friday, and was received by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tokhtayev, along with local industrialists and the business community at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
The Uzbek Airlines flight landed at 9am and was warmly welcomed with a water salute at the airport.

New opportunities to enhance economic, cultural and tourism relations between the two countries.
He said that the trip took place thanks to the vision of His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the joint efforts of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Pakistan and the Ministry of Transport.
The Uzbek ambassador said that the flight was fully booked, which indicates the importance of this route.
Alisher said that the trip is not just a joint flight, but a symbol of friendship and cooperation that takes our relations to a new level.
He said that the start of this journey between Uzbekistan and Pakistan will strengthen economic, trade, cultural and popular relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and various business organizations and chambers of commerce in the country described this trip as important for strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and other business bodies praised the start of the direct air link between Pakistan and Uzbekistan as it will help enhance bilateral economic cooperation.
While speaking to the media, Federation President Atif Ikram Sheikh said that this direct flight will be useful in establishing bilateral trade and economic integration with the Central Asian country, Uzbekistan and other countries in Central Asia.
He said that the Uzbekistan Embassy in Islamabad deserves appreciation for its important role in launching the direct air link between the two countries.
Chairman of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mian Abu Dhar Shad, said that Uzbekistan is an important country in the Central Asian region and that direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore would enhance trade relations between the two countries and all credit in this regard goes to Islamabad. President of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rana Muhammad Siddiq Khan praised the direct flight and said that the role of the business community of Gujranwala is important in increasing bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
He said that the GCC, traders and business community are already doing business in Uzbekistan in different sectors and the direct flight operation will benefit the business community of Gujranwala.
Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rehan Naseem Bharara said that besides trade relations, the direct flight route will also help in promoting tourism and cultural ties between the two countries.
