The Minister of Finance briefs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the structural reforms programme

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Monday briefed the Director-General of Humanitarian Affairs and Development at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ms. Melinda Bohannaun, on the government’s stabilization and structural reforms programme.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, during the meeting with the Minister of Finance, Ms. Melinda Bohannaun was accompanied by Ms. Jo Muir, Director of Development, and Louie Dean, Chief Economist.

The statement added that senior officials from the Finance Department also attended the meeting.

He outlined key initiatives, including the privatization agenda, downsizing the federal government, pension reforms, and reforms in state-owned enterprises. He noted that first quarter (YOY) tax revenues increased by 25.6% in FY25.

Ms. Bohannaun expressed her appreciation for the comprehensive reforms program being implemented by the Government and assured full support to the Ministry of Overseas Development.

The Federal Minister also shared details about the upcoming ten-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank, noting that Pakistan would be the first country to enter such a framework.

He stressed that the framework will address existential challenges, including population growth, child stunting and climate change, stressing the government’s commitment to sustainable development.

Both the Minister and Ms Bohannaun agreed on the importance of adopting a responsive and proactive approach to reforms.

The Minister also stressed the need to stay the course to ensure that reform initiatives achieve lasting impact and contribute to the long-term economic and social development of Pakistan.
