Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the federal government, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), is set to take decisive action against banned terrorist organizations operating on social media. The measures will also aim to prevent illegal use of the SIM card to limit its exploitation for illegal activities.
During a pivotal meeting of the National Action Plan Coordination Committee on Tuesday, officials revealed significant progress in counter-terrorism operations. The intelligence operations conducted until October of this year resulted in the elimination of 206 terrorists out of a total of 7,984 operations.
The meeting stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the National Counter-Terrorism Authority and provincial governments. A national integration center has been established to enhance coordination among stakeholders. Senior officials from the PTA and other institutions will present comprehensive strategies for dismantling terrorism-supporting infrastructure in the next session.
Minister Naqvi condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing them as “extremely regrettable.” He stressed the need to strengthen the professional capabilities of counter-terrorism forces, and committed to providing modern technological tools to police forces in all governorates. “Improving law and order requires a collective effort,” Naqvi said, calling on all stakeholders to work collaboratively.
To meet the urgent requirements of law enforcement agencies, the federal government has directed institutions to report their resource needs to the Ministry of the Interior within seven days. Reforms within NACTA are underway to restore its original mandate and strengthen its role in combating terrorism.
The meeting also reviewed security measures for Chinese citizens in Pakistan, with Naqvi directing the implementation of a strong security plan. It was also emphasized that additional support would be provided to the Coast Guard to combat drug smuggling along the coastal areas.
NACTA National Coordinator, Khalid Khattak, gave an in-depth briefing on the progress of counter-terrorism initiatives, including the establishment of the Anti-Terrorism Authority in Islamabad and other key measures. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism and ensuring national security.
