Ang Lee was honored with the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award trendy blogger

“Brokeback Mountain” director Ang Lee will be honored with the Directors Guild of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 77th DGA Awards on February 8.

“Ang Lee is a truly masterful filmmaker. For more than 30 years, he has directed a dynamic body of work that boldly crosses genres—from historical drama to comedy, adventure to western, superhero to martial arts—and always faces new challenges without… Fearless, never repeats itself, and consistently achieves cinematic excellence,” said DGA President Leslie Linka Glatter.

“Through his films, Ang invites his audience to explore complex characters that remain in your heart and mind long after the screen goes dark. From his early films like ‘The Wedding Banquet’ to artistic and commercial successes like ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ ‘Life of Pi,'” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, Ang’s works are consistently appreciated by critics, festivals and audiences for their brilliant storytelling and technological innovations. His unique approach has left an indelible mark on the history of cinema that will be celebrated “The DGA could not be prouder to honor Ang Lee as a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award,” she continued.

“I am honored to be recognized in such an amazing way by my beloved union,” Lee said. “Receiving a DGA Lifetime Achievement Award is a momentous accomplishment for me personally, and an opportunity to reflect on what my work means to this amazing community of fellow filmmakers.”

Lee has been a member of the DGA since 1996, and was awarded a DGA Medal in 2018 for his support of New York’s film and television industry. He has twice won the DGA Feature Film Award, in 2000 for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain, for which he also won an Academy Award for directing. His other DGA nominations include “Sense and Sensibility” and “Life of Pi.” His other credits include “Eat Drink Man Woman,” “The Ice Storm,” “Hulk,” “Lust, Caution,” and “Gemini Man.”

The most recent DGA Lifetime Achievement Award was given in 2022 to Spike Lee, with Ridley Scott honored in 2017 and Milos Forman in 2013.
