The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced that flight operations at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) will begin in January 2025.
Efforts are being made to meet the operational deadline, with staff deployed and necessary arrangements made.
Acting Director General Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Zeeshan Saeed, along with Deputy Director General Airports Engineer Sadiqur Rahman and Project Director Engineer Faizullah Khattak, conducted an inspection of the airport. According to a PAA spokesperson, the facility has adequate staff accommodation and is expected to be ready by the scheduled timeline.
The delegation engaged with stakeholders, including representatives of the Gwadar Development Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, Gwadar Chamber of Commerce, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Army. Project Manager Khattak emphasized the airport’s advantages and importance to regional business and investment opportunities.
The NGIAP project, developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), involves an investment of US$246 million with Chinese support. The facility includes an airport terminal and a runway capable of handling large aircraft.
The Air Security Forces (ASF) confirmed the deployment of 400 security personnel at the airport.
