KARACHI: A delegation of international investors met with Sindh Minister of Information, Transport and Mass Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, in Karachi. Various transport projects were discussed during the meeting which was also attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Public-Private Partnership Qasim Naveed Qamar, Transport Minister Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Director General Kamal Hakim Dao, and others. officials say in a news release.
During the meeting, Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon invited foreign investors to invest in Karachi Circular Rail (KCR), bullet train, bus manufacturing plant, electric auto buses and bus rapid transit (BRT) systems. International investors have also shown interest in developing KCR, bullet train, bus factory and starting electric taxi service.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, while speaking on the occasion, said that the Sindh government also intends to start electric taxi service which would create new employment opportunities. He said the government will provide comprehensive support to investors, which also includes establishing charging depots for electric buses and taxis.
He also called on investors to invest in the bullet train project, stating that the Karachi to Sukkur Express or high-speed train was a serious project that would greatly benefit the travel of millions of people. He pointed out that investors will benefit greatly from this project, stressing that investment in the transportation sector serves the interest of the public and investors as well.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said projects such as bullet train and sustainable electric vehicle infrastructure are important to modernize the transport sector. He stressed that KCR, which is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, is a pioneering project and the government is keen on the participation of investors in this project.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also briefed investors on the benefits of Dhabiji Economic Zone and invited them to set up a bus manufacturing plant in Dhabiji Economic Zone. He stressed that the bus manufacturing plant in Dabaiji Economic Zone, which is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, is one of the major projects.
He said that the Sindh government will provide all facilities related to setting up a bus factory in the region. He further said that Pakistan, especially Sindh, has a very favorable environment for businesses in all aspects.
During the meeting, the investor delegation informed that Pakistan enjoys a strategic location as a gateway to South Asia and Central Asia. Technical and financial cooperation in various transportation projects was also discussed.
The investor delegation said that the friendship between Pakistan and China has always been historic and exemplary, adding that China has invested heavily in Pakistan. They said that Pakistan is a big market for investment and has a huge workforce.
