This convocation ceremony, held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, saw 1,591 graduates dressed in gowns and caps, their eyes shining with excitement and vision for the future. Graduates, with degrees in programs ranging from BBA and BA to MBA, MSc, MA and PhD, aspire to become future leaders and entrepreneurs. They are keen to apply the lessons learned in their classrooms. Among the graduating class, 24 distinguished students received gold medals, while 44 received certificates of appreciation. The event was graced with the presence of distinguished guests, including Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesoori as chief guest; Dr. Gohar Ijaz, former Federal Minister of Commerce, Industry and Production, as guest of honour; And former interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar Haq Kakar. The keynote speaker was Yasmin Fasih, IoBM alumnus from the first batch (1997), who is currently working as Regional HR Director for Asia Pacific Operations Execution at Maersk, Singapore.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori, in his speech, encouraged the graduates to think about the day their parents accompanied them on their first day of school and how their unwavering support led them to this important milestone. He lauded the visionary leadership of the late Founder Chairman of IoBM, Shah Jahan Syed Karim, for establishing this prestigious institute of higher learning. Tesori called on young people to raise their voices, take the initiative and work to create a brighter and more promising future for themselves and the nation.
Highlighting the invaluable contributions made by the late Founder Chairman of IoBM, Shah Jahan Syed Karim, in the field of education, the Governor announced his intention to recommend to the President of Pakistan that he be posthumously honored with the prestigious Crescent of Excellence Medal.
Dr. Gohar Ijaz pointed out that the seats occupied by graduates today represent less than one percent of the total graduates, stressing the specificity and distinction of their achievement. He pointed out the huge opportunities available in Pakistan and provided an economic overview of the country, explaining how graduates can contribute in various sectors. “We have tremendous potential for growth, and what we need today is you!” conclude.
IoBM President Talib Karim presented the Institute’s progress report, emphasizing IoBM’s dedication to achieving AACSB accreditation, expanding global alumni partnerships, and integrating advanced technology into the curriculum to enhance the learning experience. He also highlighted the efforts of IoBM’s Islamic Business and Finance Centre, which is actively aligning its initiatives with the broader development goals set by the government.
In his welcome address, IoBM Advisor Bashir Jan Muhammad advised the graduates to always respect their parents. He encouraged them to dream big and develop entrepreneurial skills to add value to their lives and careers. He also noted the continuous support provided by parents to help students achieve their dreams.
Anwarul Haq Kakar expressed his happiness to be among the youth, saying, “I feel energized when I am surrounded by vibrant young minds. Formal education helps channel this energy towards meaningful goals.” He encouraged the graduates to actively contribute to building an egalitarian society where everyone plays their part in accordance with For their abilities, describing it as the Pakistani dream that we must collectively strive to achieve. He also urged the graduates to embrace new aspirations, stressing that creativity is closely linked to the essence of life.
During her keynote speech, Yasmine Fasih said: “Today, we celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in your lives.” She commended the graduates for their hard work and perseverance, and spoke about her journey at IoBM and how she played a pivotal role in its success. “Stay intentional and purposeful in your approach, pursue lifelong learning, and don’t hesitate to take chances in life,” she encouraged.
