NA Commerce Committee urges recovery of dues from federal and provincial governments – Trendy Blogger

The Standing Committee on Trade of the National Assembly stressed the need to recover dues owed by the federal and provincial governments, during its seventh meeting today, Saturday.

The committee, headed by Muhammad Jawad Hanif Khan, reviewed export strategies and discussed ways to enhance trade competitiveness.

The Ministry of Commerce briefed the Committee on the implementation of previous recommendations and identified sector-specific consultations led by the Minister of Commerce to develop export growth strategies.

The committee expressed its satisfaction with the ministry’s updates and recommended presenting a detailed sectoral export roadmap at its next meeting.

Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) gave a presentation on its achievements and operations.

However, the Committee requested additional details and recommended a revised presentation to address members’ comments.

The Trade Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) briefed the committee on its performance and highlighted the challenges faced in recovering dues from various government agencies.

The Committee supported the technical cooperation program proposal and stressed making cooperative efforts to achieve a timely recovery.

The subcommittee report, previously prepared under the auspices of Muhammad Atif Khan, was adopted for further discussion.

In addition, a new sub-committee has been formed under MNA Khursheed Ahmed Junejo to explore the untapped potential of gemstones as a source of income.

The meeting, which was attended by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and other senior officials, also included MNAs Ms Kiran Imran Dar, Dr Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig, and others, besides representatives of TDAP, TCP, National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL), National Council Export Development Board (NEDB).
