Mark Wahlberg plays the bald, psychotic killer trendy blogger

The skies are much less hospitable to flying with a bald and deranged Mark Wahlberg in the pilot’s seat.

That’s the gist of the new trailer for “Flight Risk,” a thriller from director Mel Gibson that swaps the battlefields of Scotland (“Braveheart”) and the Pacific Theater (“Hacksaw Ridge”) for an on-plane showdown between Wahlberg’s psychotic killer and an agent… FBI Michelle Dockery. She is assigned to accompany a government witness (Topher Grace) to trial; He got a contract to shoot the apostate before he could sing. The two collide on a small plane charting a course over the Alaskan wilderness.

Wahlberg is clearly having the time of his life as the hitman who takes on daring challenges, which is a departure from his typical heroic roles. Dockery, best known for her role in “Downton Abbey,” also plays against type. Lionsgate will release the film on January 24. “Flight Risk” was written by Jared Rosenberg.

Wahlberg and Gibson recently collaborated on “Father Stu,” a faith-based drama that will hit theaters in 2022. Gibson, whose career was derailed by a series of off-screen controversies, has not directed a film since 2016’s “Hacksaw.” Ridge”, which nominated him for an Oscar. He previously won an Oscar for the film “Braveheart” and also supervised the films “Apocalypto” and “The Passion of the Christ.” He plans to make a follow-up to the religious saga.

Wahlberg was last seen in Netflix’s “The Union,” a spy comedy co-starring Halle Berry. Dockery appeared in the movie “Here” alongside Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Grace appeared in the well-received horror film “Heretic.”
