Islamabad: The Permanent National Assembly Committee on Economic Affairs affirmed the urgent need for the distribution of fair resources to ensure the access of aid to the most important societies.

A meeting of the committee, chaired by Mohamed Atif, was held in the parliament, where members raised serious concerns about the IFRAP flooding project. They criticized the selection of the beneficiary, on the pretext that it fails to support the most vulnerable population.

To address these concerns, the committee decided to write to the main secretary of Baluchistan to ensure better supervision and grievance. He stressed the need for transparency and accountability, and calling for immediate corrective measures to ensure the benefits of the project reaching the needy.

IFRAP, an initiative of $ 15.60 million (4.36 billion rupees) that extends to 2024-2027, aims to build 35,100 homes for families affected by floods, providing safe and flexible housing. While the project reflects the government’s commitment to the elasticity of the floods, the committee affirmed the need for improved supervision to ensure its success.

In addition, the members asked about the credibility of some NGOs participating in the IFRAP and called for a tougher selection criteria to ensure only reliable organizations deal with such projects. The committee decided to conduct a detailed review of IFRAP issues, while providing results for further discussion and procedures.

Besides IFRAP, the committee plans to expand control over the main projects in transport, water and power, and to address violations to protect the public interest. It will also review a 10 -year proposal development project in cooperation with the World Bank, which ensures compatibility with national priorities.

For broader challenges, the committee will examine development policies, regulations for NGOs and sectoral projects in the upcoming meetings. These efforts reflect their commitment to transparency, accountability and effective governance, which ensures that projects such as IFRAP meets their promise to support weak societies.
