Islamabad: More than rupees. Building projects with trillion trillion in Pakistan are still suspended due to the ongoing legal disputes, which confirms the urgent need for a well -organized dispute resolution system in the construction industry. This was highlighted by the President of the Pakistani Engineering Council (PEC) Engr Waseem Nazir during the International Alternative Conflict Conference (ADR) 2025, organized by the Lawyers Association in the Lahore Higher Court on Thursday.
In his speech, Nazir stressed the importance of capacity building, legislative support, and a strong decision to address commercial conflicts efficiently. He pointed out that the construction sector in Pakistan impedes the lack of a culture of resolving conflict, with social pressures and regular barriers that drive contractors, advisers and agents to long legal battles. This delay is not only wasted public funds, but also suffocating the development of infrastructure and economic progress.
To face these challenges, Al -Nazir called for strategic interventions that include organizers and stakeholders in the industry and the judiciary. He revealed that PEC is cooperating with the judiciary to create the ADR centers, designed to make conflict settlement an essential element in the construction industry. These centers, with expert specialists, will mediate in disputes in large -scale projects, facilitate listening sessions with all stakeholders, and provide expert opinions to ensure quick decisions.
Ensuring the confidence of the national and international investor is a priority, and Nazir stressed that these ADR centers will play a pivotal role in achieving this goal. The conference also witnessed the participation of prominent judicial figures, including the Supreme Judge in the Supreme Court, Judge Manzur Ali Shah, the former judicial justice in the General Manager (PBUH) Sardar Ahmed Naim, and the judges of the Lahore Higher Court, among others.
