IslamabadCommercial bodies throughout Pakistan expressed their strong opposition to the recent amendment in section 11 of the Commercial Organizations Law, which reduces the state of elected rooms from two to one. The President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan (FPCCI) urged Akram Sheikh, who was addressing a press conference alongside the Chamber’s representatives, the government to return to the original period for two years for elected offices.
The Sheikh highlighted that the business community, which contributes through taxes and facilities payments, deserves a stable and sufficient period to complete the mandate provided by traders. He also stated that the Ministry of Commerce confirmed that the matter would be addressed.
The President of the Pakistan Association, Vansati Sheikh Omar Rihan, stressed the challenges of organizing elections within commercial bodies, and urged the government to withdraw the decision and restore the two -year period of the Chamber’s officials.
The Vice President of FPCCI Saqib Fayyaz added that the new amendment, which reduces the duration to only one year, is unacceptable because it contradicts the mandate granted to office holders. He and the representatives of the other room of Rawalpindi, including Sakb Rivik, rejected the changes in the law of commercial organizations.
Samina Fazil, head of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and likewise, expressed her refusal, stressing that the amendment of Article 11 of the Law should be reviewed.
