Karachi: K-Electric officially requested a reduction of 4.95 rupees for each unit in the electricity rates for the month of December, according to the monthly fuel control mechanism. The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) decided to reserve its ruling in this regard, pending a comprehensive review. The final decision will be connected at a later time.

During the K-Electric application in December, the facilities company submitted its request to obtain a tariff of 4.95 rupees per unit, with a pursuit of approval of the amendments related to the total of 5 billion rupees.

K-Electric explained that these arrears stem from partial pregnancy, open cycle, and startup costs. However, the request faced great opposition from the K-Electric consumers, with some saying that the full benefit of fuel modification should be transferred directly to the public.

In addition, concerns about the continuous pregnancy shedding in the commercial areas of Karachi and the lack of implementation of the industrial support package were raised. Nepra officials have indicated that K-Electric has taken legal measures against the court support package.

K-Electric representatives revealed that in December, the electricity produced by the company’s resources of 18.60 rupees was priced per unit, compared to 9.60 rupees per unit of the CPPa.

Nepra concluded the session, but kept her ruling, which will be issued after a comprehensive review of data and accounts. The final decision and official notification will be announced in a timely manner.
