Lahore: Pakistan’s cotton industry has achieved a major milestone with the approval of BT CIM-990, a variety of high-yielding cotton and resistant viruses developed by the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI).
The Punjab behavior council granted approval during its sixty meeting in Lahore, headed by the Minister of Agriculture in Punjab, Ashkani.
BT CIM-990 is noticeable for its strong resistance to viruses, low water needs, and high-yielding capabilities from 50 to 55 fins per acre. Its tall growth and its ability to adapt to early sowing makes it a promising choice for cotton farmers looking to increase production in different climates.
Dr. Youssef Zafar, Vice -Chairman of the Central Cotton Committee in Pakistan (PCCC), praised the CCRI MULTAN team, especially the Ministry of Plant Education and Genetics, for their hard work despite the financial challenges. He called for approval for a historic achievement for the cotton sector in Pakistan.
Dr. Nid Afar, director of CCRI Multan, also estimated the efforts of the main scientist Dr. Mohamed Akbar and his team. He expressed his confidence that BT CIM-990 will help increase cotton productivity and support farmers, making a major contribution to the total cotton product in Pakistan.
