The federal government has approved 14 billion rupees to transport agricultural pipes in Balochistan to solar energy as part of efforts to reduce dependence on traditional electricity and circular debts in the energy sector.

During a meeting of a guidance committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mohamed Ishaq Dar, officials reviewed the progress of the initiative. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of Baluchistan, the Federal Minister of Authority, senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Energy Department, and the Ministry of Energy in Balochistan.

According to the Quita Electricity Company (Qesco) report, the Baluchistan government has been spent at a value of 12.4 billion rupees of money approved by March 1. Qesco currently runs 50 of the province’s agricultural electricity feeders, with entitlements that reach a rupee. 564 billion.

The meeting was informed that a total of 4,539 calls, 2,378 poles, and 2,626 transformers have been removed so far, reducing the province’s agricultural energy load by 67.4 megawatts. Officials indicated that Balochistan has 27,437 well -supported agricultural tube wells and an additional unauthorized well.

Under the plan, farmers will receive 2 million rupees per tube upon separation, with the costs that federal and Baluchistan governments share at 70:30. The third -party verification process will be carried out to ensure proper implementation.

Fears were raised on the slow pace of the project, as Dar directed the Baluchistan and Qesco government to accelerate the transition.

The initiative is part of the wider federal government strategy for circular debt management in the energy sector. The agricultural sector in Balochistan has long struggled with bills payments, which has contributed to the high energy sector obligations. It is expected that the transmission of pipes to solar energy is expected to reduce financial pressure on both the government and farmers while ensuring more energy -agricultural power supply.
